Jacks take on former NCC foe North Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The South Dakota State University wrestling team will close out its 2004-05 season Frida y, when it stake on former North Central Conference foe North Dakota State. Start time for the contest is at 7:30 p.m. at the Bison Sports Arena on the NDSU campus.

The Jackrabbits, 10-7 in duals this season, went 1-1 against American University (Washington D.C.) and Millersville (Pa.) this past weekend. SDSU lost to Millersville 25-12 on Frida y, then claimed a 27-19 victory over American University to close out the weekend.

North Dakota State is coming off a 22-21 victory over Wyoming on Feb. 19 and is 9-4 in dual action this year. The Bison used an 11-9 overtime victory by Tim Kraemer to defeat the Cowboys in Laramie.

DUAL RECAPS:

Millersville (Pa.) 25, SDSU 12

The South Dakota State University wrestling team lost to Millersville (Pa.) 25-12 last Friday night. The Jackrabbits recorded three wins on the day, with one of them being by forfeit.

Chris Werth put the Jacks on the board with a forfeit victory at 133 pounds and Todd Opdahl followed with a 7-1 decision at 165 pounds. Cody Nehl rounded out the SDSU effort with a 4-3 decision over Jeremy Wampler at 197 pounds.

With the loss SDSU moved to 9-7 in dual competition, while Millersville moved to 7-6-1 and avenged an earlier loss to SDSU.

SDSU 27, American University (Washington D.C.) 19

South Dakota State defeated American University 27-19 last Sunday afternoon.The Jacks started things with a pin by Cody Nehl at 197. American tied it with a pin at heavyweight, then SDSU won the next three weights by forfeit for a 24-6 lead. SDSU's other victory came at 184 pounds, a 10-5 decision by Levi Krehmeyer

FAMILIAR FOE: This Friday's matchup between SDSU and NDSU will mark the 48th meeting between the two border schools. NDSU recorded a 31-3 victory over SDSU in Brookings last year.The Jacks' last win in Fargo was during the 1996-97 season, when SDSU defeated the Bison 24-10. The Bison lead the all-time series 30-18.

LAST MATCH OF CAREER: The South Dakota State University wrestling team will close out its dual season this Friday night at NDSU. It will mark the last wrestling event for three seniors on the Jackrabbit squad, Garrett Houska, Jeremy Roe and Scott Revier. Roe is a three-time national qualifier and was a Division II All-American in 2004, placing sixth at the national tournament. Houska has lettered the last two years. Combined the two wrestlers have combined for 70 wins and 50 losses. Revier, a late addition to the Jackrabbit squad in 2004-05 has recorded a 4-7 record at heavyweight.

JACKS WIN AGAINST D-I: The South Dakota State University wrestling team has compiled a 6-6 record against Division I opponents heading into this Frida y' s matchup with North Dakota State.

UNDEFEATED WEEKEND:Three Ja ck r abbit wrestlers went undefeated in competition on its eastern trip last weekend. Chris Werth won by forfeit against Millersville and then went on to win another match by forfeit against American Univeristy. Junior Cody Nehl decisioned Je r e m y Wampler of Millersville 4-3, then followed that up by pinning Josh Glenn of American University in 4 minutes, and 13 seconds. Sophomore Brad Gregory recorded a forfeit against American University to go 1-0 in competition.

JACKS FINISH STRONG: The South Dakota State University wrestling team has compiled a 4-2 record in competition during the month of February. The Jacks have defeated three teams at home and one on the road.

NEHL GETS ANOTHER PIN: Cody Nehl, a junior from McIntosh, recorded his seventh pin in a match this past weekend. Nehl defeated Josh Glenn of American University in 4 minutes, and 13 seconds. Nehl earlier in the year had a streak of recording a pin in six straight matches.

HOME SWEET HOME: SDSU closed its home wrestling season with a pair of victories over Dakota Wesleyan and Northern State. In all, the Jacks had seven home matches in 2004-05 and went 5-2 at home this season. SDSU recorded victories over the University of Mary (N.D.), Princeton (N. J.), Southwest Minnesota State, Dakota Wesleyan and Northern State.
