Faribault standout signs on at Minnesota State
4/27/05
Mankato, Minn.--- Minnesota State head coach Jim Makovsky has announced the signing of Faribault, Minn., native Brady Wilson to a National Letter of intent to join the Maverick wrestling program for the 2005-06 season. With his commitment, the MSU recruiting class stands at three.
As a senior at Faribault High School, Wilson rolled to a spotless 41-0 record and captured the Minnesota Class AAA state championship at heavyweight. He followed that with a runner-up performance at the NHSCA High School Senior National Championships, a tournament featuring the top senior wrestlers from all 50 states. He finished his career with an overall record of 114-34.
Wilson is also an accomplished international-style wrestler as well. He completed a rare feat by capturing the MN/USA Wrestling Junior State Greco-Roman title at 275 pounds on April 9, followed by the freestyle crown the following day.
Makovsky will look to Wilson to fill the void at heavyweight created by the departure of Mike Engelmann, a three-time qualifier to the NCAA Division II National Championships and All-American in 2005.
"Brady is a big, tall, hard-working and talented heavyweight with the potential to be a great college wrestler," said Makovsky. "His proximity makes him a great fit for Minnesota State, as it will allow his supportive family to follow his career closely. Brady has a great attitude and will be a big contributor to our team goal of winning a Division II national championship."
All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
