Konrad wins gold at Pan American Championships
May 3, 2005 - All-American heavyweight Cole Konrad won the gold medal in freestyle at 120 kg at the Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. A sophomore from Freedom, Wis., he defeated former World Champion Alexis Rodriguez of Cuba in the semifinals. Konrad joined fellow college standout Ben Askren of Missouri as gold medal winners. Four other United State wrestlers took home bronze medals.
Konrad is a two-time All-American for the Golden Gophers and claimed a runner-up finish at the 2005 NCAA Championships. He claimed his first Big Ten Championship this past spring and now owns a 79-13 career record.
