13 commit to wrestle at Concordia

Concordia College wrestling Coach Clay Nagel has announced 13 freshman who have made verbal commitments to enroll at Concordia and wrestle for the Cobbers next fall. "I am very excited about these recruits," said Nagel, "they are not only great athletes, but are also outstanding students and people. They exemplify the type of student athletes we want at Concordia and will make us very competitive in years to come."
John Fradette, Milaca
Projected weight: 133/141
Career record: 139-25
John was a four-time state participant. He placed fifth as a sophomore, sixth as a junior and fourth his senior year. He was 43-3 as a senior. John was instrumental in getting his Milaca team to the State Tournament this year where they were consolation champions. He is a two-year member of the National Honor Society with a 3.78 GPA. He has been named Most Valuable Wrestler, Hardest Worker, and Captain of his Wolves wrestling team.
Shad Tappe, Detroit Lakes

Career record: 163-42
Shad was a four-time state entrant. He was a three-time section champion and a one-time runner up. Shad was named Team MVP, was a team captain for two years, and competed on two state tournament teams for Detroit Lakes. Shad was named to the Minnesota High School Coaches Association Academic-All State Team. He was a National High School Coaches Association All-American. Shad was also a five-time all-conference selection.
Nels Anderson, Dassel-Cokato

Nels completed his senior season with a 32-4 record, 10 pins, 141 team points; 261 match points, and was a team captain. He was a three-time state entrant. Nels was a National Honor Society member.
Cayle Halberg, Bagley/Fosston

Cayle was a 2005 Section 8 Champion and a state entrant. He finished his high school career with over 75 wins. He was a team captain his senior season. Cayle was named to The Guillotine 2004 Academic All-State Wrestler Second Team.
Jeremy Welter, Buffalo

Career record: 94-33, 48 pins
Jeremy was named all-conference honorable mention in 2004 and 2005. He was fourth at sections in 2003 and 2004 and first at sections in 2005. Jeremy placed fourth at state in 2005. He was named his team's most outstanding wrestler in 2004 and 2005. He also had most reversals in 2003 and 2004, most pins in 2005, and was a captain for wrestling in 2005. Jeremy wrestled for Team USA at the Dominican Republic and took 1st place in the summer of 2004. He won a Junior Achievement Award for excellence in academics in 2001.
Spencer Lund, Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City

Spencer was a six-time letterwinner in wrestling. He also lettered in cross country, football (2X), and track (4X). He was a two time state entrant, placing fourth in 2005. Spencer finished his senior season with a record of 42-5. He was a two-year team captain. He was a two-time Falcon Award winner (hardest worker, best leadership, most positive attitude). Spencer was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, a writer for "The FALCON Flyer," "A" and Straight "A" Honor Roll achiever, Spotlight on Scholarship Award recipient in every sport and graduates with honors.
Dennis Sik, West Central Area/Ashby

Dennis was a five-time letterwinner in wrestling. He was all-conference and was twice awarded Hardest Worker Award. He was a two-year captain and a Knight Award recipient. Dennis has many football and track awards. He was Student of the Month three times and is an honor roll student.
Brandon Carrigan, Bismarck Century, Bismarck ND

Brandon was a three-time state participant placing third this year. He was a 2005 team captain and finished with a 36-8 senior year record. He led his team in pins (23), three-point nearfalls (24), and two-point nearfalls (24). Honors include: 2001 Cadet Greco-Roman state champion; member of the 2002 North Dakota National Cadet Dual Team; 2003 Junior freestyle and Greco-Roman runner-up; 2004 Greco-Roman and freestyle state champion; Century Team Heart Award; and member of 2005 North Dakota Disney Dual Team.
Tony Neumann, Willmar

Tony was instrumental in getting his team to the state tournament this year. He placed fourth at individual sections his junior year at 171 and second his senior year at 189. He has won five individual tournaments in his career. Tony was voted co-MVP and was co-captain of the 2004-2005 wrestling season. He was named all-academic for the 2004-05 season. Tony was selected all-conference honorable mention his junior year and was named all-conference his senior year. He was a co-captain for football and has an overall 3.4 GPA.
Nate Kocer, Eastview

Nate, a 2003 graduate, had 57 wins and 45 falls in high school. He placed sixth in state as a senior. Honors include: Lake Conference All-Conference; member of 2002 MSHSL State Academic Wrestling Champion Team; member of the 2000 and 2001 Cadet Greco-Roman Minnesota Storm Team; member of the 2002 and 2003 Junior Greco-Roman Minnesota Storm Team; 2002 Junior State Greco-Roman 5th Place; 2003 Junior State Greco-Roman 3rd Place; and 2002 Junior Northern Plains Greco-Roman 4th Place.
Mike Christensen, Buffalo

Career record: 67-24
Mike finished his senior season with a 25-5 record, 15 pins, and 129 team points. He was a two-time state entrant and section runnerup. He was a 2004-05 captain for wrestling and football. Mike was all-conference his junior and senior year in wrestling and all-conference honorable mention his senior year in football.
Nate Stumpf, Wabasha-Kellogg

Career record: 70-15
Nate was a three-year starter and captain of his wrestling team as a senior. He has won five tournaments and he placed third at the state tournament in 2005. Nate was a four-year starter in football and was captain his junior and senior years.
Preston Lyles, Billings MT

Preston finished his senior season with a 27-9 record. He was a state qualifier his junior and senior years. He was all-state runner-up as a junior and all-division champion (eastern side) as a senior. Preston has received all-conference, all-state, and academic all-state awards. He has many football and track awards.
