Viking's Graumann earns academic honors
May 25, 2005
Augustana wrestler Aaron Graumann continues to add awards to his long list of accomplishments by being selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team College Division Men's At-Large Team.
It is Graumann's second selection to the first team. He now moves to the Academic All-America ballot. That team will be announced on June 14.
Graumann, a Sioux Falls native, posted a 35-4 record at 125 pounds in 2004-05 and won the NCAA Division II national championship while leading the Vikings to a second-place team finish. He was a four-time national qualifier and a three-time All-American. He finished with a 109-41 career record.
In the classroom, Graumann maintains a 3.78 grade point average while majoring in chemistry and Spanish. He was a three-time Academic All-North Central Conference selection and was a 2003-04 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Third Team honoree.
Graumann is also involved in numerous campus and community activities. The 2004 Viking Days Homecoming King, Graumann is active in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Spanish Club and the Student Affiliate American Chemical Society. In addition, he has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and Mark Twain Elementary School.
Earlier this month, Graumann was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, and on Monday he was named the recipient of the North Central Conference's Stan Marshall Award, the top award given to a student-athlete.
