Moorhead's 2x NAIA Champion and 2x NCAA runner-up Bob Billberg passes away in tradgic auto accident

Funeral services for Mr. Robert I. Billberg, 60, will held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Route 176), Libertyville. The Rev. David Dennison will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday, at the funeral home.
Born June 12, 1944, in Waukegan, he passed away suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, from injuries received in an automobile accident in Janesville, Wis.
Robert was a 1962 graduate of Waukegan High School and graduate of Southern Illinois University. He received his master's degree from Ball State in Muncie, Ind.
Wrestling was a wonderful part of Bob's life, as he was on the wrestling team in Waukegan, and both at the University of Minnesota at Moorhead and Southern Illinois University. He later became a physical education teacher, was the head wrestling coach at Libertyville High School and also coached football and girl's track, retiring in 1994. Bob was inducted into the hall of fame at his high school, Southern Illinois University, the Illinois High School Grappling Hall of Fame and the N.A.I.A. Hall of Fame.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Vernon Hills, enjoyed fishing and was also a member of the Charter Boat Association at Waukegan Harbor. Surviving are his daughters, Kathy Billberg of Round Lake Beach and Tory (Kevin) Balinovic of Waukegan; his fiancee, Nancy Zahn and her son, Spencer Zahn, both of Green Oaks; and his sister, Karen Billberg of Lexington, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eunice Billberg; and by his former wife, Sharon in 2004.
