Matousek gives verbal to Minnesota
November 4, 2004
Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Nate Matousek has given verbal committment to wrestle for the University of Minnesota. The two-time Minnesota state champion made college visits to Northern Illinois, Penn State, Nebraska, and Minnesota before making his decision to wear the Maroon and Gold. "I'm happy I can stay in Minnesota," said Matousek , "ever since I was a little kid I wanted to wrestle for the Gophers. It will be nice to be a part of a program that will be competing for a national title in the years to come."
With 198 career wins entering his final high school season, Matousek has an opportunity to break the Minnesota high school all-time wins record of 233 held by current Gopher Mitch Kuhlman.
Matousek is a five-time state qualifier placing fifth as an eighth grader and winning titles as a sophomore and junior. He was a double champion at the 2002 Cadet Nationals in 2002 and was one match shy of All-American honors at the Junior Freestyle Nationals this past summer. He is considered one of the top recruits in the nation at 157/165 pounds.
