Saturday, January 22, 2005
FARGO, N.D.--Freshman Andy Pickar picked up his fifth pin of the season at 165-pounds and Matt Hermann notched career win #50 to lead North Dakota State to a 31-3 victory over Northern Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 22, in front of a crowd of 781 at the Bison Sports Arena.
NDSU (6-2) won nine of ten matches over UNC and extended its home winning streak to 19 consecutive at the Bison Sports Arena.
The Bears (3-4), who were without the services of head coach Jack Maughan who is expecting the birth of his first child, defeated South Dakota State 31-12 earlier in the day in Brookings, S.D. before meeting the Bison.
NDSU's Mike Meger (125) and Nick Magee built NDSU's lead to 6-0 with two decisions. Meger defeated Blayze Bahe 6-4 to open the dual.
Magee controlled the action against UNC's Kyle Kaiser, building a 2:42 riding time advantage, to cruise to a 6-1 win at 133.
Northern Colorado's Kenny Hashimoto did all his scoring in the third period to defeat NDSU's Lucas Christianson 5-3 at 141-pounds.
Hashimoto's win cut the Bison's lead to 6-3, but NDSU would not lose another match.
Zach Stevens defeated UNC's Nathan Gerrard, 7-1 at 149 pounds to improve his record to 13-9 on the season.
At 157, Collin Kelly led UNC's Mikell Surber 5-3 after two periods and added a takedown and riding time in the final stanza in an 8-5 win.

Hermann scored seven takedowns in his match with Cole Allison at 184-pounds to score a 15-5 major decison. Hermann's 50th career win as a Bison gave NDSU a 25-3 lead in the dual.
At 197, Dustin Benz scored a takedown with four-seconds left to escape with a 4-3 win over UNC's Tanner Linsacum. The score was tied 2-2 after two periods. With Linsacum clinging to riding time advantage, Benz scored in dramatic fashion just as time was expiring.
