NDSU wins border battle, 24-16

FARGO, N.D.--Down 12-7 after five bouts, the North Dakota State wrestling team won four out of the last five matches to secure its 20th straight home victory with a 24-16 win over Minnesota State University-Moorhead.
The Bison's record now stands at 7-2 on the season.
Freshman Mike Meger got a victory right out of the gates at 125 pounds with an 11-8 decision over Dave Burgard. In a close match throughout, Meger led 2-1 and 6-5 after the first two rounds before taking the win with a two-point reversal with six seconds left in the third round.
The Bison forfeited the match at 133 pounds, giving the Dragons a 6-3 advantage before senior Lucas Christianson fell 4-3 at the hands of MSUM's 141 pound Ben Keen to extend their team lead to 9-3.
Zach Stevens, a junior at 149, had a convincing 11-1 win over Shane Walton to cut the deficit to 7-9. With two takedowns and two nearfalls, Stevens outscored Walton 8-0 after the second period.
Entering the third period trailing 5-4, MSUM's 157 pound Josh Jansen used a two-point reversal and a three-point nearfall in the final minute and a half to pull out a 10-5 win over NDSU's Collin Kelly.
Freshman Andy Pickar took charge at 165 pounds with a major decision over Rockie Stavn. Pickar's seven-point second period proved to be the difference maker in the 13-5 bout which again cut into the Dragon lead.
With 11 seconds remaining in the opening round, 174-pound junior Adam Dahlstrom pinned Eric Roseen to give the Bison the lead for good. Leading the match 6-1 at the time, Dahlstrom's third fall of the year was also his fastest at 2:49. His previous fastest pin of an opponent was 3:07.
Matt Hermann outscored Eric Hagemann 9-3 at 184 pounds, and Dustin Benz received a 14-3 major decision over Dustin Uselman to fortify the Bison lead at 24-12 with one weight remaining.
Former NDSU heavyweight Chris Tuchscherer, down 4-1 after the first period, used two three-point nearfalls in the second round to score a major decision over current NDSU heavyweight Tim Kraemer.
The 24-16 Bison win is the 32nd straight victory over Minnesota State-Moorhead.
Next action for NDSU will be Thursday, Feb. 10, when the Bison host Northen Iowa. The opening bout is scheduled for 7:30 pm at the Bison Sports Arena.
