Southwest Falls to #2 Augustana 33-14

Marshall, Minn: Despite some outstanding performances from the under dog Mustangs, second-ranked Augustana College defeated the Southwest Minnesota State University wrestling team 33-14 Tuesday night.

The Mustangs picked up three victories in the dual as Jeff Cooley (Fr., Westbrook, Minn.), Tim Johns (Jr., Harrisburg, S.D.) and Richard Roesler (Jr., Mora, Minn.) each picked up victories for SMSU. Cooley earned Southwest's first victory of the evening by defeating Mike Gibson at 141 by a score of 6-0. Cooley's victory pulled SMSU to within eight of the nation's second-ranked team. Johns earned his victory after SMSU had fallen behind 23-3. He defeated Bo Severson 17-2 thanks to two near-falls. Roesler picked up the open victory for the Mustangs to close the evening.

Southwest Minnesota State will be back in action on Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to Upper Iowa University at 7:00 p.m.
