NDSU 25, Utah Valley State 10

GREELEY, Colo.--North Dakota State rebounded from a 31-12 setback to #13 Northern Iowa by winning seven of ten bouts against Utah Valley State en route to a 25-10 win. The Bison (8-3) capitalized on Nick Magee's forfeit at 133 pounds and Andy Pickar's major decision at 165 pounds to secure the win in Greeley, Colo.

The Bison will wrestle Northern Colorado tonight at 8 p.m. MT following the Bears' matchup with Utah Valley State at 6 p.m.

The Wolverines (3-11-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after Talon Vickers 15-5 major decision over NDSU's Mike Meger at 125 pounds. Vickers led 7-1 after the first period after scoring two takedowns and a 3-point nearfall. 

Magee received a forfeit at 133 pounds to put the Bison back out in front 6-4. 

NDSU would win the next two matches, starting with Lucas Christianson 9-4 triumph over UVSC's Clayton Wolf at 141 pounds. Christianson had two takedowns, two reversals and riding time advantage to secure his 13th win of the season.

Junior Zach Stevens' takedown with 17-seconds left in the first period would prove to be the difference in a 3-1 victory over UVSC's Brandon Meise at 149 pounds. Stevens improved to 15-9 on the year.

After no scoring in the first period, NDSU's Collin Kelly and UVSC's Tanner Cowan exchanged points in the second period and Cowan led 3-2 after two. Cowan notched a takedown and back points in the final stanza to defeat Kelly 8-3. The win cut NDSU's lead to 12-7.

Freshman Pickar won his fourth straight match with a 15-2 major decision over Mark Blain at 165. Pickar tallied four takedowns and two 3-point nearfalls in the match. He is now 22-7 on the season and built the Bison lead to 16-7.

NDSU's Adam Dahlstrom recorded his 20th win of the season with an 8-3 win over Wayne Watts at 174 pounds. His victory extended the lead to 19-7.

At 184 pounds, NDSU's Matt Hermann and Ivan Bigney went back and forth in their matchup. Herman led 2-1 after one and scored a takedown with just four-seconds left in the second to take a 6-3 lead heading into the third. He recorded another takedown to start the third to lead 8-3, but Bigney answered with an escape and a takedown to cut the lead to 8-6 with 40-seconds left. Hermann held on for his 19th win of the season and gave the Bison a 22-7 advantage.

Dustin Benz's match at 197 needed overtime as Benz escaped the grasps of UVSC's Darren Cooper with just two-seconds remaining in the match to force the extra period. Cooper's scored a takedown 22-seconds in to pull out the win.

At heavyweight, Tim Kraemer improved his record to 28-7 on the season with an 8-2 decision over Diego Avalon. Kraemer led 4-2 after two periods and did all the scoring in the third frame to post the victory.
