South Dakota State defeats Princeton 18-15

12/10/2004

A pin at 125 was the difference as South Dakota State edged Princeton 18-15 in wrestling action Friday night.

Each team won five weights in the dual held in the Intramural Building (The Barn) on the SDSU campus, the first varsity athletic event in the facility since January, 1973. A crowd of 300 including a group of former Jackrabbit wrestlers who competed in The Barn watched the action.

The difference in the team score came in the second match of the night, when SDSU's Marcus Waters pinned Princeton's Audrey Pang in 29 seconds. That came after Princeton's Kristopher Berr won a 2-1 overtime decision at heavyweight to start the action. That was one of three overtime victories for the Tigers, who went 1-3 on their trip to the Dakotas.

SDSU also had decisions by Chris Werth at 133, Chad Herrboldt at 149, Andy Everson at 157 and Nate Althoff at 165.

SDSU, 2-0 in duals, is now idle until the Oregon Classic on Friday, January 7.
