Vikings travel to Cliff Keen Invitational

December 1, 2005

THIS WEEK: The Augustana College wrestling team returns from a week off to make a weekend trip to Las Vegas. The Vikings will be among 51 teams that will compete in the Cliff Keen Collegiate Wrestling Invite. The invite will be held at Cashman Center December 2 and 3. Action both days begins at 9 a.m.

THE FIELD: With 51 teams entered, the Cashman Center will host schools such as Nebraska-Kearney, Ohio State, Arizona State, and Stanford University to name a few.

RESULTS: Results for the 2005 Cliff Keen Collegiate Wrestling Invitational can be found at the following web site at: www.cklvwrestle.com

LAST YEAR: Augustana made a lot of noise at the 2004 Cliff Keen Invitational. The Vikings finished 23rd overall, but were the top Division II team.

LAST TIME OUT: The Vikings had some good individual performances at the Kaufman-Brand Open in Omaha, Neb., on November 19. Junior Nate Buys went 2-2. He won his first two matches, picking up wins over Jason Waidzulis of Minnesota and Brent Parkey of Oklahoma State. He then dropped a 2-0 decision to John Koonns of Minnesota State-Mankato and a 6-3 decision to Rusty Blackmon of Oklahoma State.

In the Under 20 division, several Vikings had strong showings. Adam Schlee went 2-2 at 125 pounds, Tobyn Ward went 2-2 at 133 pounds, Mike Long went 3-2 at 133 pounds, Jordan Burmeister went 2-2 at 141 pounds, Mitch Lunning went 2-2 at 174 pounds and Tom Nesseth placed sixth at 184 pounds with a 3-2 record.

UP NEXT: The Vikings conclude the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule next week with their first dual of the season. On Thursday, December 8, Augustana will entertain Northwestern College in a 7 p.m. dual at the Elmen Center. It is the first of six home duals this season.
