No. 6 Augustana travels to Augsburg, St. Cloud State

THIS WEEK: The sixth-ranked Augustana College wrestling team hits the mat for the first time in 2006 with a pair of road duals this week. The Vikings travel to the Twin Cities on Thursday to take on Augsburg, the defending Division III national champions, in a 7 p.m. dual. Then on Friday, Augustana opens North Central Conference action at St. Cloud State in a 6 p.m. dual.
LAST YEAR: Augustana defeated St. Cloud State 50-0 before upending Augsburg 22-13. It was the Vikings’ first win over Augsburg in six meetings.
UP NEXT: The Vikings return home to face Dakota Wesleyan on January 11 before heading to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the Cliff Keen National Duals.
LAST TIME OUT: Augustana picked up three pins and three major decisions en route to a 33-10 non-conference dual victory over Northwestern College.
The Vikings, ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II Top 20 Poll, won seven of the 10 matches as they won their first dual of the season. Recording pins for Augustana were Chris Trampe at 125 pounds, Cody Henriksen at 165 pounds and Nate Buys at 184 pounds. Austin Scarset (157), Tom Nesseth (197) and Cris Bietz (Heavyweight) recorded major decisions, while Jordan Burmeister won a decision at 141 pounds.
Trampe got the Vikings off to a good start when he pinned Northwestern’s Bill Frederick in 3:38. It was Trampe’s team-high fifth pin of the season. Henriksen, ranked fifth in the nation, wasted little time in his match, pinning Derek Kosters in 1:09. Buys, who picked up his team-leading 15th win, was nearly as quick, pinning Corey Stromley in 1:39.
Scarset, also ranked fifth in the country, scored 7 takedowns and a point for riding time to collect a 15-4 win over Courtney Goodwin. Tom Nesseth led 2-0 after one period before scoring 7 points in the second period and 5 more in the third to register a 14-5 victory over Andrew Lundgren. Bietz wrapped up the evening with a methodical 11-3 win over Isaac Schmidt.
