Jacks compete at Lone Star Duals

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The South Dakota State University wrestling team went 0-2 in competition Saturday night at the Lone Star Duals in Arlington, Texas.
The Jacks picked up three wins Saturday afternoon, but fell to California State University at Fullerton 27-9 in third round action in Arlington.
Nate Althoff, a Watertown native, put the Jackrabbits on the board with a 5-3 decision over Bryan Tice in the 165-pound weight class. Travis Gottschalk, a junior from Kimball, Minn., scored three more points for the Jacks by defeating Ryan Budd 3-0. Sophomore Jason Stripling ended the scoring for SDSU by recording a 3-0 decision over Matt Methling.
The Jackrabbits closed out the tournament falling to Brown University (R.I.) 34-6.
Gottschalk put the Jacks on the board in the seventh match of the night defeating Matt Gevlinger 2-1. Stripling closed out the night upending Levon Mock 12-6.
South Dakota State went 1-4 in Texas with its lone win coming Saturday afternoon against Clarion (Pa.). The Jacks picked up seven wins, including one by forfeit to defeat Clarion (Pa.) 28-15 in second round action.
The Jacks opened the day falling to Central Oklahoma 29-10.
SDSU will now head to Virginia for the Virginia Duals on Jan. 13-14. Start time for the duals have yet to be determined. Last winter, the Jacks captured the American College Division title in Virginia.
