HUSKIES BACK HOME AT HALENBECK: The St. Cloud State wrestling team (0-4, 0-2 NCC) will return to Halenbeck Hall for a non-conference match against cross-county rival St. John’s University at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4. Admission is free to all spectators for this exciting NCAA wrestling match at Halenbeck Hall.
2005-06 RESULTS: SCSU is 0-4 in dual meet competition this season, and the Huskies are 0-2 in NCC action. Last year, SCSU was 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the North Central Conference dual meet season. The Huskies placed sixth at the 2005 NCAA Division II North Regional, and also placed 30th at the 2005 NCAA Division II championships.
WASCHE IS SECOND AT NORTH COUNTRY: Nick Wasche gained a second place finish at 125-pounds to lead the Huskies at the annual North Country Open on Jan. 28, at St. John’s. Wasche was 3-1 in action at the tourney and lost a 19-9 match to Mark Johnston of Dickinson State in the title bout at 125. Along the way, the unseeded Wasche gained wins over #3 seed Cory Johnston of DSU, #6 seed Brian Barbiaux of Augsburg and #2 seed Tim Thompson of SJU. At 133-pounds, Brent Johnson was 2-2 on the day and Matt Jackson was 0-2 on the day. At 141-pounds, Shad Tappe went 0-2 and Tom Messerli charted a 1-2 record at 149-pounds for the Huskies. In action at 157-pounds, Shane Tappe ended with a fifth place finish at the North Country. He charted a 6-2 win over Jamie Garcia of Dickinson State in the fifth place match. Nate Schut and Tom Anderson both marked 2-2 record at 165-pounds. At 174-pounds, Jason Moore advanced to the semi-finals where he lost to Gabe Harry of Dickinson State by a 4-2 score. He collected a fifth place finish at the Open with a default win over unattached Chris Moran. Also at 174-pounds, Adam Hill was 1-2. At 184-pounds, Neil Russell gained a 2-2 record and Jario Sandoval was 1-2. SCSU’s squad at the North Country was completed by Brad Nowak, who notched a 0-2 record at the heavyweight spot. On Jan. 26, the Huskies lost a tough 53-0 match at home against #1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha.
