NCC Co-Wrestler of the Week honor goes to Krinkie
January 31, 2006
Sioux Falls, SD -- The offices of the North Central Conference have announced that Minnesota State junior 174-pounder Travis Krinkie has been named NCC Co-Wrestler of the Week for his efforts in a conference dual against Augustana last Friday. This is the second consecutive week that a Maverick has taken home the weekly award from the league office as Krinkie follows last week's recipient, senior 184-pounder John Koons. Krinkie shares the honor this week with Cody Henricksen of Augustana.
The Blue Earth, Minn., native provided a crucial victory in Minnesota State's 25-17 dual victory over Augustana on Friday, as the #2-ranked Krinkie pinned the #5-ranked wrestler in NCAA Division II, Dusty Wilking of the Vikings. The score of the dual stood at 13-9 after six matches, with Augustana having momentum having won three of the previous four bouts. Wilking started out the match with a takedown, but Krinkie quickly got the momentum back on the Maverick side with an escape, then a takedown that nearly put Wilking on his back. Seconds later, Krinkie was able to pin Wilking to the mat at the 2:17 mark of the first period to pick up six points for Minnesota State, giving the Mavericks breathing room in a dual they would go on to win by eight points.
The Mavericks (10-1, 1-0 NCC), ranked #2 in NCAA Division II, will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 3, when they host #12 MSU Moorhead in a non-conference dual, with the meet scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Taylor Center.
