Kraemer named NCC Co-Wrestler of the Week
February 8, 2006
Sioux Falls, S.D. -- The offices of the North Central Conference have announced that Minnesota State senior heavyweight Tim Kraemer has been named NCC Co-Wrestler of the Week for his efforts in a non-conference dual against MSU Moorhead last Friday. This is the third consecutive week that a Maverick has taken home the weekly award from the league office as Kraemer follows senior 184-pounder John Koons and junior 174-pounder Travis Krinkie. Kraemer shares the honor this week with Les Sigman of Nebraska-Omaha.
The Cold Spring, Minn., native notched an upset victory over #4-ranked Chris Tuchscherer in the 29-6 Maverick victory over the Dragons last week. Despite giving up 47 pounds to Tuchscherer, the unranked Kraemer earned a 6-1 decision. Kraemer entered the third period with a slim 2-1 lead, but a late reversal and two near fall points provided some breathing room in the victory. That win started a string of six consecutive wins by MSU wrestlers as the #2-ranked Mavericks easily disposed of the #12-ranked Dragons.
Minnesota State (11-1, 1-0 NCC), ranked #2 in NCAA Division II, will next be in action on Friday, Feb. 10, when they travel to Omaha, Neb., for a showdown with #1 Nebraska-Omaha. The North Central Conference dual is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
