St. Cloud State update

SCSU will wrestle at the 2006 NCAA Division II North Regional on Feb. 26 at Nebraska-Omaha. Top four finishers in each weight division will advance to the NCAA nationals on March 10-11 in Findlay, Ohio.

HUSKIES AT REGIONALS: The St. Cloud State wrestling team (0-8, 0-3 NCC) will compete at the 2006 NCAA Division II North Regional on Sunday, Feb. 26. The tournament is slated to start on the campus of University of Nebraska-Omaha in Omaha, Neb. at 10 a.m. that day. Teams included at the tournament are UNO, Minnesota State, Mankato; St. Cloud State, Augustana, Upper Iowa,

Northern State, Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State-Moorhead. The defending champion is Augustana. The top four in each weight class will advance to the National Tournament March 10-11 in Findlay, Ohio. 2005-06 RESULTS: SCSU is 0-8 in dual meet competition this season, and the Huskies are 0-3 in NCC action. Last year, SCSU was 0-7 overall and 0-5 in the North Central Conference dual meet season. The Huskies placed sixth at the 2005 NCAA Division II North Regional, and also placed 30th at the 2005 NCAA Division II championships.

LAST WEEK AT SCSU: The Huskies lost a pair of dual matches in action last week. On Feb. 16, the Huskies dropped a 24-18 decision against Southwest State at Halenbeck Hall. Shad Tappe gained a forfeit win at 141, while Tom Messerli posted a 4-2 win over Luke Griffith at 149. SCSU also got a win from Tom Anderson at 165 and Jason Moore at 174. Neil Russel added a close 7-6 win at 184 for SCSU. On Feb. 17, the Huskies closed out their dual season with a 41-3 loss at #2 Minnesota State Mankato. Shad Tappe gained a big 7-5 win over MSU’s Jeremy Sogge in OT. He had a takedown in the OT session to gain the win. Another tight match happened at 174, where SCSU’s Jason Moore pushed #1 ranked Travis Krinkie to the limit in a 8-5 decision win for MSU.
