FARGO, N.D.- North
Dakota State University head wrestling coach Bucky Maughan
announced today that high school seniors Geoff Martin and Nick Walton
are planning to continue their education and wrestle for NDSU as
recruited walk-ons in 2006.
With these two additions, the Bison now have 13 total commitments for
next year's squad.
Martin graduated from Fargo (N.D.) South High School and placed fifth
at 135 pounds at the 2006 North Dakota State High School Tournament. He
also received all-american honors after a fifth-place finish at the AAU
Folkstyle Nationals. Martin also put together a pair of third-place
showings at the North Dakota Freestyle and Greco-Roman state
tournaments.
Walton is a graduate of Fargo (N.D.) North High School that placed
sixth at the state Greco-Roman tournament and eighth at the Folkstyle
tournament during the 2005-06 season. Walton was also a three-time
all-state academic selection and a two-time North Dakota high school
state tournament participant.
The Bison wrestling program completed its third year of
reclassification to Division I with a 6-6 record. NDSU will compete in
the newly formed Western Wrestling Conference and be eligible for the
NCAA tournament beginning next season.
