Cobbers 3-1 at the Dubuque Duals

The Concordia Cobber wrestling team went 3-1 at the Dubuque Duals this weekend. The Cobbers opened with a 32-9 loss to the #28 ranked Dubuque Spartans. Junior Jordan Hepp (Hwt) and Freshman John Fradette (141) picked up Concordia’s only two wins.
Concordia’s next opponent was Buena Vista. The Cobbers upset the #27 ranked Beavers 24-16. Freshman Luke Vetsch (174) picked up a 11-8 victory to start Concordia on its way to its first victory of the year. Freshman Tony Neumann (184) pinned his opponent at the 2:26 mark. Senior Ed Oehlers(197) picked up an overtime victory before freshman Heavyweight Nate Stumpf , wrestling in his first match of the year, pinned his opponent to give the Cobbers a 18-0 lead. Fradette recorded a 12-9 victory at 141. Senior captain Lee Rahrlien sealed the victory with a 7-2 win at 165.
Concordia finished the day with team victories over Univ. of Wisconsin Osh Kosh 25-18 and Univ. of Wisconsin Eau Claire 24-18. Neumann at 184 and freshman Matt Olson (125) picked up decisions while junior Smokey McBride (133) won by forfeit. Fradette recorded a major decision with a 17-7 win at 141. Freshman Spencer Lund (157) pinned his opponent to give the Cobbers a lead. Rahrlien once again sealed the victory with a 9-5 victory. Eau Claire jumped to a 12 point lead before Hwt Jordan Hepp put Concordia on the board with a 5-0 victory. Matt Olson picked up another win followed by McBride’s 11-8 win at 133. Fradette pinned his opponent at 141. Another freshman, PJ Mack (149) gained a 7-3 win followed by Lund’s 8-3 victory at 157.
Lee Rahrlien and John Fradette lead the Cobbers with 13-4 and 16-6 records.
