BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The American University (Washington, D.C.) wrestling team won eight matches, including three by fall Sunday afternoon to upend South Dakota State 38-9 at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.

Watauga native Cody Nehl closed out the match for the Jacks by defeating Tyler Flatt 6-0. The senior used a takedown and riding time in the third to win his final match as a Jackrabbit. Nehl, who finished the year being victorius in 12 of his last 13 matches, brought his overall record to 15-4 with the win.

Dusty Kavitz, a sophomore from Medford, Minn., won by forfeit at 141-pounds.

SDSU finished the season with a 7-11 record, while American University improved to 12-6 in dual action. The loss brought SDSU’s home record to 4-3 on the year and marked the final match for Nehl and Chad Herrboldt.
