Golden Gophers picked first by RevWrestling
The University of Minnesota wrestling team is ranked No. 1 according to the preseason all-division collegiate rankings released recently by RevWrestling.com. Minnesota is ranked one ahead of defending national champion Oklahoma State and leads 10 Big Ten teams in the top 25.
A year after finishing second to Oklahoma State at the NCAA Championships, the Golden Gophers look to pursue their third national title in the last seven seasons. Minnesota returns four All-Americans, including Roger Kish (184) and Mack Reiter (133), and defending national champions Dustin Schlatter (149) and Cole Konrad (HWT).
Minnesota returns three other NCAA qualifiers, including C.P. Schlatter, the defending Big Ten Champion at 157 pounds and a two-time NCAA qualifier. Gabe Dretsch is a also two-time NCAA qualifier at 174 pounds, while Manuel Rivera made his first NCAA appearance last season.
In addition, eight of Minnesota’s 10 projected starters are ranked in the top 15 of their respective weight classes. Dustin Schlatter and Konrad are both ranked No. 1, while Reiter and Kish are ranked second.
The Golden Gopher wrestling team opens its season on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Bison Open in Fargo, N.D.
