During Homecoming at Winona State University, over a dozen wrestling
alums had a very good 45-Minute discussion with WSU President Dr.
Judith A. Ramaley October 7, 2006. We had a very good discussion and
President Ramaley recognizes our passion and devotion we have for the
sport.
At this time, due to the possible changing patterns in the NSIC, the
NCC, and the future Region Make-up for WSU, they won’t consider
bringing up the possibility of adding the sport until that takes place
in the next few years. Dr. Ramaley, said at that time they would see
what the wrestling interest is in the Region, and they would have to
add a female sport. The logical sport would be swimming with some of
the small colleges in Minnesota sponsoring that sport, I know MSU
Moorhead and UMM offer that sport. Obviously, finances are a concern,
and our alumni, under Larry Marchionda, current UW-Oshkosh Wrestling
Coordinator and WSU Hall of Fame Member are willing to put forth a good
financial plan if that opportunity and dream would come through.
Lets show President Ramaley, and Athletic Director Larry Holstad, in
tactful letters, emails and nice phone calls that there is a lot of
interest for wrestling at Winona State University. Please don’t be
rude. Please indicate the positives, of the sport, the increase in high
school wrestling participation for the 18th straight year in a row, and
that your student/athletes would strongly consider attending Winona
State if they brought Wrestling back.

Section schedule for wrestling support
letters and calls for Winona State
All coaches, wrestlers, fans -- help bring Winona State Wrestling back!
Please send letters, calls, and emails on the following schedule. I
suggest hard mail as emails tend to get over quota, especially with
your administrators. It would be great if you took 15 minutes from your
busy practice schedule, and had each wrestler write a letter and drop
in a large brown envelope and send.
Obviously you can write letters and call anytime, but it would be nice
to see different parts of the state chip in each week, and let them
know we need places that our young wrestlers can continue their
wrestling beyond high school.
Thanks for your support. Spencer Yohe, 1972 WSU Alum
