Sioux Falls, S.D. -- The offices of the North Central Conference have
announced that Minnesota
State senior 157-pounder Brandon Girtz has been named the NCC
Co-Wrestler of the Week. Girtz shares the award with Ross Taplin of
Nebraska-Omaha.
The Forest Lake, Minn., native earned the award for his efforts in the
University of Northern Iowa Open, Sunday, where he posted a 5-0 record
to win the championship. Girtz defeated Tyson Reiner of UNI, 13-6, Kyle
Forness of Buena Vista, 8-3, Jake Murphey of Purdue, 5-4, and Emanual
Brooks of Missouri by forfeit to reach the championship match. Girtz
defeated Moza Fay (UNI), 5-4, to win the championship. Fay is currently
ranked in the top 20 among NCAA Division I wrestlers.
The Mavericks next action will come this Saturday as they head to St.
Cloud for the St. Cloud State Invitational.
