Sioux Falls, S.D. -- The offices of the North Central Conference have
announced that Minnesota
State senior 149-pounder Jason Rhoten has been named the NCC
Co-Wrestler of the Week today. Girtz shares the award with Cody Garcia
of Nebraska-Omaha and makes it the second consecutive week a Maverick
wrestler has been named to the award.
The Kasson, Minn. native earned the award for his efforts in the St.
Cloud State Invite Saturday. Rhoten won his division at the St. Cloud
State Invitational. He pinned Johnny Bradtjen of Augsburg in 3:14, had
an 18-2 technical fall over Cody Johnvin of Itasca College and had a
9-1 major decision over Justin Turek of Ridgewater College to reach the
championships. In the finals he decisioned Jared Evans of Augsburg 5-3
for the title. Evans is ranked fourth in NCAA Division III competition.
The Mavericks next action will be when they head to Reno, Nev. on Dec.
20, for the Reno Tournament of Champions.
