Johnnies look to carry momentum into this weekend

After a one-year hiatus, the Terry Haws Duals will return to Collegeville on Saturday, January 20 beginning at 10 a.m. in Sexton Arena. Along with the Johnnies, Concordia-Moorhead, Regina, Ridgewater, #3 Wis.- La Crosse and Wis.-Eau Claire are expected to compete in the six-team duals.

SJU has sucessful weekend in Pennsylvania
Williamsport, Pa. -- The Saint John’s wrestling team went 3-2 last weekend at the Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College. SJU fell to #14 York, Pa., 22-18 in the first dual of competition and then defeated Oswego State, N.Y. (17-16) before falling to Baldwin-Wallace, Ohio (29-17). The Johnnies returned on Saturday to defeat Muskingum, Ohio (35-6) and Wabash, Ind. (due to forfeit) to end the Duals with a 3-2 record. The Johnnies had a number of strong individual showings including senior Jacob Malone (4-0 record, 157; New York Mills, Minn./New York Mills), freshman Mogi Baatar (4-0 record, 125; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/St. Benedict's), freshman Minga Batsukh (3-1 record, #3 nationally at 141; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/St. Benedict's), and junior Tim Thompson (3-1 record, 133; Lake City, Minn./Lake City).

Freshman Minga Batsukh (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/St. Benedict's) is currently ranked #3 in the nation at 141 pounds in the Jan. 7 Brute/Adidas NWCA Division III individual rankings.
