No. 11 Augie wrestlers prepare for two
duals this weekend

THIS WEEK: The 11th-ranked Augustana
College wrestling team will be in action in a pair of duals this
week. On Friday, the Vikings (4-3) travel to Marshall, Minn., to take
on Southwest Minnesota State in a 7 p.m. dual. Then on Saturday,
Augustana will open North Central Conference action against St. Cloud
State in a Parent’s Day dual that begins at 2 p.m. at the Elmen Center.
LAST WEEK: The Augustana
wrestling team posted a 1-2 record at the NWCA/Cliff Keen Division II
National Duals Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Vikings lost to No. 1
Central Oklahoma 21-13 and No. 10 Ashland 22-15 before rebounding to
defeat No. 16 Findlay 30-18.
Against Central Oklahoma, the Vikings trailed 7-6 after 4 matches.
Chris Trampe and Jarred McCarthy picked up wins at 125 and 149 pounds.
The Vikings had a chance to take the lead at 157 pounds, but Austin
Scarset, ranked second in the nation, dropped a 5-2 decision to UCO's
Jason Leavitt to make the score 10-6.
Augustana's remaining wins came from Cody Henriksen at 174 pounds and
Nate Buys at 197 pounds. Henriksen scored a 10-2 major decision over
Daniel Morrison, while Buys tallied a 10-4 decision over Heath Jolley.
Trampe got the Vikings off to a good start against Ashland by defeating
Ryan Belcher 8-1. But Ashland won the next 3 matches to take a 10-3
lead.
Scarset narrowed the deficit to 10-6 with a 6-2 decision over Tony
Bradberry. But at 165 pounds, Ashland's Eric Lakia pinned Augie's Aaron
Haddorff in 6:44 to make the score 16-6.
Henriksen and Buys helped cut the lead to 19-15. Henriksen earned a 9-4
decision over Justin Ferguson, while Buys pinned David Crowley in 2:57.
Ashland's Josh Ohl secured the win by defeating Ray O'Connor 10-4 in
the heavyweight match.
In the finale against Findlay, Augustana won 6 matches, including 3 by
pins. Buys (197), McCarthy (149) and Mike Long (141) all pinned their
opponents, while Trampe earned a technical fall victory at 125 pounds.
Henriksen picked up a major decision at 174 pounds, while Nesseth
recorded a decision at 184 pounds.
