January 30, 2007

THIS WEEK: The 14th-ranked Augustana College wrestling team will be on the road for a pair of big duals this week. On Wednesday, the Vikings, who are 7-3 in duals this season, travel to Blair, Neb., to take on Dana in a 7 p.m. dual. Dana is ranked No. 5 in the latest NAIA national rankings and is the defending NAIA national champions. Then on Friday, Augustana heads to Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State in a key North Regional battle. That dual also begins at 7 p.m.

INSIDE THE RANKINGS: Augustana is ranked No. 14 in the latest NCAA Division II national rankings, as well as No. 4 in the North Region. Northern State is ranked No. 6 in the North Region. Dana, meanwhile, is ranked No. 5
the most recent NAIA national rankings.

Individually, Augustana has 4 wrestlers nationally ranked, while Northern State has 1 and Dana has 6.

FEATURED MATCHES: Augustana’s 125-pounder Chris Trampe could have a big week. Trampe, who is 21-6 and ranked No. 8 in the nation, could face his twin brother Craig Trampe, who is ranked No. 5 for Dana, and Chas Welch
Northern State, who is ranked No. 7 nationally.

In looking at the projected lineups for the Augie-Dana dual, two other matches could pit nationally-ranked wrestlers. At 197 pounds, Augie’s Nate Buys is No. 3 in Division II, while Dana’s Wade Jordan is No. 6 in NAIA.
