The University
of Minnesota wrestling program has announced that Torrey Line has
signed an acceptance of admission form to join the Golden Gophers for
the 2007-08 season.
A native of Browerville, Minn., Line has been unable to compete this
year after being diagnosed with a form of bone cancer on Aug. 28, 2006.
The son of Mike and Kim Line, Torrey began an aggressive form of
chemotherapy in September and, in December, he had surgery to remove
approximately six inches from his femur bone and had a complete knee
replacement. He spent most of December recovering from the extensive
surgery and is currently undergoing further chemotherapy and will
continue to do so for some time. For more information on Torrey’s
cancer, please visit www.takedowncancer.com.
A five-time state qualifier, Line captured the 2005 Class A state title
at 171 pounds to cap off a perfect 45-0 season. He compiled an overall
record of 179-21 through his junior year. A three-time Cadet National
All-American, he won the 2005 Greco-Roman national title. In addition
to his national accolades, Line was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler
at the 2006 Rocky Mountain Junior Regionals and won state titles in
both freestyle and Greco-Roman.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Torrey Line joining the Minnesota
wrestling program,” head coach J Robinson said. “It’s great to have
someone who has already faced such huge adversity in his life and still
wants to follow his dream.”
Line joins a recruiting class that includes Cody Marcicki (Metamora,
Mich.), Zach Sanders (Wabasha, Minn.), Sonny Yohn (Alamosa, Colo.) and
Kaleb Young (Tentstrike, Minn.), who all signed National Letters of
Intent during the fall signing period.
