March 20, 2007

BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Four South Dakota State University wrestling student-athletes have been selected to the Western Wrestling Conference All-Academic team and Commissioner’s Honor roll for the 2006-07 season.

Earning recognition on the WWC All-Academic team were junior Jason Stripling, sophomore Jeff Cooley and redshirt freshman Chris Moran. Senior Brad Gregory was the lone representative on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete had to secure a minimum of a 3.25 grade-point average, be a starter or key reserve and a sophomore or higher in academic standing.

Stripling, a civil engineering major and Minneota, Minn., native, made the squad with a 3.56 GPA, while Cooley, also a civil engineering major, checked in with a 3.376 GPA. Moran, a Rapid City native, compiled a 3.408 in biology.

Gregory, a senior from Glenwood, Iowa, made the Western Wrestling Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll with a 3.081 GPA in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

SDSU's three selections to the academic squad were tied with Utah Valley State for the most of any school.

South Dakota State ended the 2006-07 season with an 8-8-1 record and placed three wrestlers in the finals of the NCAA West Regional on March 3.
