Bison Put Two Wrestlers on WWC All-Academic Team

March 21, 2007

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Western Wrestling Conference has announced its inaugural All-Academic Team and Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the 2006-07 season. This year’s academic awards will honor 31 student-athletes from the seven conference schools.

To qualify for the All-Academic team, student-athletes had to secure a minimum 3.20 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be a sophomore or higher in academic standing. This year’s WWC All-Academic squad is comprised of 11 student-athletes.

Two of those student-athletes included NDSU's Jacob Bryce and Matt Wetterling. Bryce finished the 2006-07 season with a 18-10 record and was an NCAA qualifier at 197 pounds. Bryce had the highest grade point average amongst the 11 selections with a 3.933 GPA in business administration. Wetterling is a history education major with a 3.425 GPA. Wetterling, who was hobbled by a shoulder injury for most of the year, finished the season with a 10-5 record and a team-leading six pins.

The Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 grade point average. This year’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll will honor 23 WWC student-athletes.

Matt Hermann, Gabe Mooney and Eric Sanders represented North Dakota State on the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Hermann completed his senior season, winning his 75th career match at the NCAA West Regional. Hermann finished the 2006-07 season with a 12-14 record and a 3.059 GPA in business administration. Mooney went 17-12 for the Bison and maintains a 3.09 grade point average in dietitics. Sanders finished third at the NCAA West Regional and compiled a 19-9 record on the season. Sanders is majoring in management information systems with a 3.096 grade point average.
