BROOKINGS, SD -- South Dakota State
junior Jason Stripling has been selected to the National Wrestling
Coaches Association All-Academic team for the 2006-07 season.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete had to
secure a minimum of a 3.2 grade-point average, be a NCAA qualifier or
won 60 percent of his matches.
Stripling, a civil engineering major and Minneota, Minn., native, made
the squad with a 3.56 GPA. He was second on the team in victories this
winter with a 22-6 record and posted 11 victories by fall. Following
the season, Stripling was named to the Western Wrestling Conference
All-Academic team and was a second-team all-conference selection.
"I'm very proud of this accomplishment. Jason represents the type of
student-athlete we want at South Dakota State and in our wrestling
program," said head coach Jason Liles.
South Dakota State, which qualified one wrestler for the NCAA
tournament, ended the 2006-07 season with an 8-8-1 record and placed
three wrestlers in the finals of the NCAA West Regional on March 3rd.
