BROOKINGS, S.D. -- Four prep standouts have signed national letters of intent, indicating they will enroll at South Dakota State University and compete for the Jackrabbit wrestling program next winter.
Signing during the Spring signing period, were:
Jared Aesoph, 174/184 pounds, Watertown, S.D.
Tyler Chicoine, 125/133 pounds, Elk Point, S.D.
Jacob Heisinger, 174 pounds, Temecula, Calif.
Heath Stangl, 125/133 pounds, Elkhorn, Neb.
Aesoph was a two-time state place-winner at Watertown High School for
head coach Bob Hirsch. He earned third-place honors this past season
after winning the state tournament his junior year. Aesoph, an academic
all-state selection, was also a first-team all-state linebacker in
football for the Arrows. He intends to major in mechanical engineering
at SDSU.
Chicoine, a four-time state place-winner and 2007 state champion, was
named the Outstanding Wrestler at the state tournament following his
senior season at Elk Point-Jefferson. He was a four-time conference,
district and regional champion, while compiling a 181-21 career record
for the Huskies. Chicoine, who was also a Brute-Adidas and Junior
Olympic All-American, posted 25 state tournament victories over four
years and plans to major in agriculture next fall.
Heisinger joins the Jackrabbits after recording a 101-32 record in
three-years of wrestling at Chaparral High School in Temecula, Calif.
He earned eighth-place honors at 171 pounds this past season at the
state tournament, after winning the CIF Southern Sectional. Heisinger,
who collected 84 of his 101 wins by fall during his high school career,
went 43-7 as a senior.
Stangl was a three-time state place-winner at Elkhorn High School in
Elkhorn, Neb. He earned runner-up honors his junior season after
placing third overall at the state tournament his sophomore year.
Stangle, a four-time state qualifier, compiled a 120-12 record for head
coach Kyle Bluhm. He plans to major in construction management at SDSU.
