Dana used a pair of 1-point decisions at 125 pounds and Heavyweight to
upend Augustana 27-17 in a battle of Vikings Wednesday night in Blair,
Neb.
Dana, ranked No. 5 in NAIA, improved to 10-2 on the season, while
Augustana, ranked No. 14 in Division II, dropped to 7-4.
Dana, the defending NAIA national champions, won 7 of the 10 matches to
pick up the victory. But it was the 125-pound and Heavyweight bouts
that proved to be the difference.
In the second meeting of their college careers, twin brothers Chris
Trampe of Augustana and Craig Trampe of Dana opened the dual. While
Chris Trampe won their initial meeting as freshmen, Craig Trampe earned
a 2-1 win on Wednesday. Then at Heavyweight, Dana's Jesse Boggs edged
Augie's Ray O'Connor 4-3.
Austin Scarset, Cody Henriksen and Nate Buys were the Augustana
grapplers who were victorious. Scarset pinned Jason Bilinski in 4:09 at
157 pounds, while Buys pinned Wade Jordan in 6:06 in the 197-pound
match. Henriksen registered a 19-4 technical fall over Josh Ghobadpoor
at 174 pounds.
Augustana returns to the mat on Friday when the Vikings travel to
Aberdeen, S.D., to face Northern State in a 7 p.m. dual.
