Nate Buys avenged 1 of his 2 losses on the season, but it wasn't enough
as the Augustana wrestling team dropped a 30-7 North Central Conference
dual to Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday night in front of 850 fans at Lee
& Helene Sapp Fieldhouse.
Augustana, ranked No. 14 in the nation fell to 8-6 on the season, while
No. 3 Nebraska-Omaha improved to 6-5.
Buys, who is ranked No. 3 at 197 pounds, earned an impressive win in
the featured match of the night. Buys scored a 13-2 major decision over
No. 2 Jacob Marrs.
Buys dominated the action. He recorded 2 takedowns, 2 3-point near
falls and a 2-point near fall. In addition, he had 5:45 in riding time.
Buys improved to 25-2 on the season.
Augustana's Chris Trampe scored the Vikings' only other win of the
night, defeating Jimmy Ball 9-3.
The Vikings came up on the short end of a pair of close matches.
Augie's Aaron Haddorff dropped a 2-1 decision to top-ranked Ross Taplin
in the 165-pound bout. Taplin earned the winning point by virtue of
1:02 riding time.
At 174 pounds, No. 1 ranked J.D. Naig edged Augie's Cody Henriksen,
ranked No. 5, 4-1. Naig used a first-period takedown and a riding time
point for the 3-point win.
Augustana will now be off until February 25 when the Vikings compete in
the North Regional Championships in Moorhead, Minn.
