Brookings, SD -- Jason Stripling upended Tyler Rhodes by fall at
heavyweight, but South Dakota State dropped a 41-6 match to Northern
Iowa in Western Wrestling Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Stripling, a junior from Minneota, Minn., scored the Jacks lone points
of the match downing Rhodes by fall in 6 minutes, 32 seconds. For the
match, Stripling scored a takedown in the second period and a
three-point near fall in the third before downing Rhodes with 28
seconds remaining in the match. Overall, Stripling collected his 19th
victory this season and 11th win by fall.
For the match, Northern Iowa posted five major decisions and two wins
by fall. The Panthers currently have three wrestlers ranked in the
top-20 of the InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual rankings.
With the loss, South Dakota State dropped to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in the
WWC, while Northern Iowa improved to 7-9-1 overall and 4-0 in the
conference.
South Dakota State will take on North Dakota State tomorrow to close
out the regular season. Start time for the match against the Bison is
set for 2 p.m. at Frost Arena. The match against NDSU will mark the
final home match for five seniors and one junior.
