Marshall, MN -- Southwest Minnesota State dropped its
fourth-consecutive dual on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 7 Upper
Iowa University 33-9.
SMSU drops to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in the NSIC, while Upper Iowa
improves to 8-1, 3-0 NSIC. Upper Iowa was ranked No. 7 in the latest
NWCA Division II Poll and had five individuals ranked.
The Mustangs earned two victories in the match. At 149, Luke Giese
pinned Andy Norton at 3:35 and Tyler Johnson got his 23rd win of the
season as he defeated UIU’s No. 8 Brady Hakeman 9-3 at 174. Justin
Crouch was close to a victory but fell just short as No. 5 Mitch Norton
defeated him 9-7 at 165. Michel Barrie also had a close match as he
took it to Upper Iowa’s Jacob Pedersen but was unable to get the win as
he fell 8-6 at 133.
SMSU will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the NCAA Regionals in
Moorhead, Minn.
