St. Cloud State Wrestling Announces 2007-08 Schedule

July 31, 2007

St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State University has announced its wrestling schedule for the upcoming 2007-08 season.  Highlights of the upcoming season include the annual Husky Open in St. Cloud on Dec. 8 along with trips to the Cobber Open on Nov. 17, the Northern Iowa Open on Dec. 2 and the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis on Jan. 4-5.

SCSU will open its season on Nov. 10, with the intra-squad Husky Black/Red Classic at 7 p.m.  The Huskies will hit the road for the Cobber Open on Nov. 17 and the Northern Iowa Open on Dec. 8, before returing to Halenbeck Hall for the Husky Open.  This date has also been designated as Parents’ Day at SCSU.

On Dec. 15, SCSU will compete in Collegeville at the Terry Haws Duals, and on Jan. 4-5, the Huskies will travel to Midwest Classic Tournament in Indianapolis.

SCSU's dual meet season will kick-off on Jan. 10, with a date at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.  SCSU will host UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 11, and on Jan. 18, the Huskies will open their North Central Conference schedule with a dual at home against rival Augustana College.

On Jan. 25, SCSU will battle non-conference rival St. Olaf at home, before hosting NCC opponent Nebraska-Omaha on Jan. 26 for SCSU Wrestling Alumni Night.  SCSU will hit the road to Moorhead, for a dual against Minnesota State, Moorhead on Feb. 1.

Coach Steve Costanzo and his team will return to Halenbeck Hall on Feb. 2, for a 7 p.m. match against Southwest Minnesota State University.  To complete the home portion of its 2007-08 slate, the Huskies will host local rival St. John's at 7 p.m. on Feb. 8 for Prep Night, followed by a Feb. 10 match at home against Upper Iowa – which has been designated Senior Night at SCSU.

SCSU will finish its dual season on Feb. 16 with a trip to the University of Mary and a Feb. 22 date at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Mankato will also be the site of the NCAA Division II North Region championships on March 2, and the 2008 NCAA Division II Championships will be hosted by Upper Iowa in Cedar Rapids, Iowa this season.

“Our focus is to face the best competition and I believe we have done that with our schedule this season," Costanzo said.  "Obviously, we want to win dual meets, but we want to take the talent here at SCSU and turn our wrestlers into All-Americans. We definitely will be challenged and if we can endure the competition there will be positive results in the end."
