Several Augustanna College
individual wrestlers turned in strong performances Saturday at the 2007
Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open in Brookings, S.D. The Vikings
tallied one individual championship, four runner-up finishes and three
third-place efforts.
At 197 pounds, Ty Copsey finished with a 3-0 record to win the
individual crown. Copsey pinned Myran Andrews of Iowa Central in
2:58, defeated Richard Kokesh of Iowa Lakes, 7-1, and won by injury
default over teammate Lance Peters in the championship match.
Peters finished the day 2-1.
At 125, Al Meger was the runner-up with a 2-1 tournament record, losing
the championship to Zach Sanders by 1 point. At 141, Jay Sherer
finished third with a tournament record of 3-1.
At 165, Aaron Haddorff finished 2-1, losing the championship match to Brad Lower of Iowa Central.
At 174, Andrew Sorenson finished 4-1, finishing third with a 14-2 major
decision over Ahmad Motley of Iowa Central. Sorenson concluded
the day tied for the most wins by fall with three.
At 184, Nick Henning went 3-1 to finish third, and Beau Severtson took runner-up honors with a 3-1 record.
