The Augustana wrestling team put together a solid performance against
some of the best competition in the country Saturday at the
Kaufman/Brand Open in Omaha, Neb.
At 197 pounds, Ty Copsey finished second to Clayton Foster of Oklahoma
State, losing a major decision, 13-3. Copsey defeated Jordan
Taghvai of UC-Davis, Jordan Johnson of Iowa, and Chance Rencountre on
his way to the championship bout against Foster.
Lance Peters also competed at 197 pounds, losing to Ross Milan of Dana and Alex Iacocca of Lehigh.
At 141 pounds, Beau Penk defeated Chris Brown of Iowa Central and Geoff
Martin of North Dakota State before falling to Mike Vassar of Iowa
Central. In the wrestleback, Penk fell to Russ Evans of Buena
Vista.
Gavin Nelson was the only other wrestler to place in the tournament. Nelson went 3-3 at 157 pounts to place sixth.
