SJU To Compete At Husky Open Saturday
The Saint John’s wrestling squad will travel to compete at the St. Cloud State University Husky Open this Saturday, Dec. 8. The tournament is open to all post- high school wrestlers and will feature a double-elimination format. There will also be no team scoring. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m in Halenbeck Hall.

Johnnies Go 2-2 In La Crosse, Upset No. 23 Loras, Iowa
LA CROSSE, Wis. –The Johnnies’ wrestling team finished 2-2 at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Duals last Saturday. SJU defeated No. 23 Loras, Iowa (19-17) and Winona State (27-3), and fell No. 3 Wis-La Crosse (38-7) and No. 10 Cornell, Iowa (20-15). Freshman Tony Willaert (North Mankato, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial) pinned junior J.P. Williams at 174 lbs., while sophomore Mogi Baatar (right; Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/St. Benedict's Prep, N.J.), junior Jon Shellenberger (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park), junior Matt Schrupp (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer), and senior Jason Finley (Lake City, Minn.) all collected wins against nationally-ranked Loras.

In the dual win against Winona State, freshman Trevor Pempek (Wasilla, Alaska) pinned Phil Huerta at 157 lbs. and freshman James Carlson (Royalton, Minn.) pinned Nick Humfeld at 184 lbs. Other victories for Saint John’s came from sophomores Sam Morse (Minneapolis, Minn./St. Paul Highland Park), Grant Lydon (White Bear Lake, Minn.), Randy Tietz (New Prague, Minn.), and freshman Dustin Raygor (St. Croix Falls, Minn./St. Croix Falls).

Against No. 10 Cornell, Schrupp pinned Kent Blackburn and senior Jason Finley (Lake City, Minn.) defeated Josh Pastor 8-2 at 197 lbs. Other wins for the Johnnies included freshman Dustin Baxter (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley) at 184 lbs. and Shellenberger (left), who defeated No. 9 Nick Nothern 4-3 at 133 lbs.

SJU boasted two strong finishes against No. 3 Wis-La Crosse. At 125 lbs., sophomore Mogi Baatar defeated Pat Parrillo 12-1, and junior Zach Anderson (Thief River Falls, Minn.) defeated Ryan Farwell 7-4 at 149 lbs.
