St. Cloud State Ranked 20th in Latest Poll

December 7, 2007

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University wrestling team, which will host the annual Husky Open tournament on Dec. 8 in SCSU’s Halenbeck Hall Fieldhouse, was ranked 20th in the latest NCAA Division II national poll. The Huskies received eight points in the poll, and this marked the first time this season that SCSU has been ranked among the nation’s top 20 Division II wrestling teams.

SCSU junior Brad Padgett, a resident of Buckley, Wash. and transfer from Highline C.C., was ranked sixth nationally in the 184-pound division. Padgett owns a 6-1 record this season, and he most recently gained top honors at 184-pounds at the 2007 Minnesota State Moorhead Dragon Open. For his efforts, Padgett was named the North Central Conference Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 4.

The Husky Open will begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 8, in SCSU’s Halenbeck Hall South Fieldhouse. Admission for the event is $6 and $3 for youth and students. For more information, please call 320-308-2141.

The 2008 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships will be hosted by Upper Iowa on March 14-15 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
