15 members of the Augustana wrestling team
competed at the UNK Loper Open Saturday in Kearney, Neb. Jon Madsen won
the title in the heavyweight division, while Ty Copsey took runner-up
honors at 197 pounds.
Madsen pinned Cale Bickerdyke of Chadron State in 3:01 in his first
match of the day. He followed that effort with a shutout decision (7-0)
over Bryce Boehm of Nebraska-Omaha. In the championship, Madsen
defeated Tony Lewis of Nebraska-Omaha, 5-4.
Copsey opened his first match with a pin of Nebraska-Kearney's Justin
McKain in 5:30. He then pinned John Justice of Dana College in 1:47
before defeating Lars Lueders of Wayne State, 3-2. In the championship
match, Copsey lost to Cameron Browne of Nebraska, 6-4.
At 125, Sid Bice finished in third place with a 4-1 record on the day. Al Meger finished 5th at 4-1 as well.
At 133, Jason Jeremiason finished third place with a 5-1 record, while
at heavyweight, Brett LeBrun finished in 4th place at 3-2.

The UNK Loper Open is the final competition for the Vikings in 2007.
The Vikings next compete in the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Classic takes place Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5, 2008.
