#20 St. Cloud State Rolls to 4-0 Record at Terry Haws Duals

Collegeville, Minn. - #20 St. Cloud State University (4-0, 0-0 NCC) wrestled its first duals of the 2007-08 season, living up to their recent #20 ranking. SCSU used 4-0 days from Gabe Suarez (Las Vegas, Nev., 141 lbs.), #6 Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash., 184 lbs.) and Nick Wilkes (Onamia,197 lbs.) to control the 2007 Terry Haws Duals Saturday at St. John's on Dec. 15.

The Huskies started the day out with a narrow 22-16 win over #12 (DIII) Buena Vista. Suarez highlighted the scoring with a 23-8 tech fall victory over Russ Evans at 141 lbs.

Round two pitted SCSU against the University of Dubuque, with SCSU downing the Spartans 24-14. Chris Schiewe gave the Huskies six points by pinning Jacob Elmhorst 2:24 minutes into their match. Padgett picked up a victory over a ranked opponent, as he took a 9-3 win over #8 (DIII) Matt Wonderlic.

The Huskies moved to 3-0 on the day after dropping #9 (NJCAA III) Ridgewater College 35-6. Suarez, Wilkes at 197 lbs. and John Sundgren (Coon Rapids) all notched pins in the dual.

SCSU then finished off its day by easing past local rival St. John's 41-3. Padgett went out in style, pinning his last opponent Nick Blanco in 3:29 for his fourth victory of the day.

With their perfect days Suarez moved to 14-2 on the season, Padgett upped his mark to 16-2 and Wilkes, a 2007 National Qualifier, improved to 12-3.

Suarez was dominant, recording a tech fall victory and two pins, with his closest match being a 11-4 victory in the Dubuque dual.

The Huskies will be off until the new year when they travel to Indianapolis to participate in the Midwest Classic. The two-day event starts on January 4 at 10:00 a.m.
