Huskies Ranked 18th In Latest NCAA Division II Poll

January 9, 2008

The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (4-0) was ranked 18th in the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling poll released by the Division II Wrestling Coaches' Association on Jan. 9.

Nebraska-Kearney maintained its position atop the NCAA Division II wrestling rankings. UNK, last year’s national tournament runner-up, earned six of the eight first-place votes cast in balloting of coaches from around the country and finished with 158 points. Nebraska-Omaha picked up the other two first-place votes and jumped from seventh to second in the poll with 150 points.

Defending national champion Central Oklahoma was third with 141 points, followed by Minnesota State-Mankato (139) and Adams State (128). Rounding out the top 10 was Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.), Upper Iowa, Ashland (Ohio), Western State (Colo.) and Newberry (S.C.).

The Huskies moved up two spots in the poll thanks to their ninth place finish at the elite Midwest Classic Wrestling tournament on Jan. 4-5, in Indianapolis.

Junior Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) gained a sixth place national ranking for the Huskies at 184-pounds. He was the lone Husky to receive a national ranking in this poll. Padgett, a transfer from Highline C.C., currently owns a 21-2 record for the Huskies this season.
