The Minnesota State University wrestling
team will be in search of their seventeenth dual meet victory this
Friday when they travel to compete against the University of
Nebraska-Omaha. UNO is currently 6-2 and ranked 2nd in the latest NCAA
II National Poll. The dual is slated to start at 7:00 pm and will take
place in the Sapp Fieldhouse.
Last week
The #1 Mavericks improved to 16-0-1 on the season as they won 8-of-10
matches on their way to a 28-9 win over the #9 Peacocks of Upper Iowa.
The only losses for the Mavericks came at 125-pounds as second-ranked
Nick Smith (Yankton, S.D.) lost a close match to third-ranked Tyler
Mumbulo, 6-4, and at 133 where the Mavericks were open.
Top-ranked 157-pound senior Jason Rhoten (Mantorville, Minn.) and
second-ranked heavyweight sophomore Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) won
their matches against ranked opponents as Rhoten won a 6-2 decision
over fifth-ranked Travis Eggers and Wilson was able to hold on to a 2-1
decision in the overtime period against sixth-ranked Dan Goodson....

The Mavericks are 9-0-1 against ranked NCAA II teams during the 2007-08
campaign and have compiled a 16-0-1 dual meet record this season. The
Mavericks are now 62-8-1 the past three seasons.
Rhoten All-Time Win Watch
Jason Rhoten (Senior, 157 – Mantorville, MN) is closing in fast on the
top spot for career victories by an MSU wrestler. With Rhoten’s 6-2
decision over Travis Eggers last Sunday, Rhoten moved to within one win
of tying MSU careers wins leader Jack Eustice. Rhoten’s season record
of 29-2 has put him at 125 career wins. Jack Eustice amassed 126 wins
from 1974-1977 while capturing All-American honors 4 times as well as
an individual national championship in 1976.
