North Dakota State Posts 23-10 Road Win Over Utah Valley State

OREM, Utah--North Dakota State
won the final three matches to pull away for a 23-10 win over Utah
Valley State in a Western Wrestling Conference match Monday, Jan. 28.
The Bison improve to 2-1 in the WWC and 8-8 overall. The dual that was
switched to the Utah Valley wrestling practice room due to a campus
power outage.
Holding a slim 13-10 advantage, Eric Sanders (133), Gabriel Mooney
(141) and Andrey Patselov (149) all posted victories as North Dakota
State pulled away late. Patselov broke open a close match with Sam
Allen in the second period with an escape and a pair of takedowns to
record a 13-3 major decision. He improved to 15-7 overall and 5-3
overall.
Sanders came up with an important third period takedown to secure a 9-4
win over Logan Wilson. He improved to 18-10 overall, 10-6 in duals.
Mooney led from the beginning in a 9-3 victory over Jeff Newby to
improve his record to 20-8 overall and 10-5 in duals.
The Bison jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Adam Aho recorded a 12-4
major decision over Nathan Garner at 157 pounds, while Vince Salminen
came up with a near fall in the third period in notching a 12-7 win
over Nate Kearsley at 165. Aho improved to 21-4 overall, 13-3 in duals,
while Salminen is 11-11 and 3-8.
NDSU broke a 7-7 deadlock with Jacob Bryce (10-8 overall, 8-4) and
Tyler Hemmesch (16-12, 6-4) victories at 197 pounds and heavyweight,
respectively. After a scoreless first period, Bryce recorded a second
period reversal and third period takedown to win 4-0 over Mark Dennis.
Hemmesch decisioned Billy Green 6-3.
North Dakota State is scheduled to host Wyoming in a WWC dual match at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Bison Sports Arena.
