Fayette, Ia. -- The #1 Minnesota State Mavericks
improved to 16-0-1 on the season as they won 8-of-10 matches on their
way to a 28-9 win over the #9 Peacocks of Upper Iowa in a match-up of
future NSIC conference opponents starting next season. The only losses
for the Mavericks came at 125-pounds as second-ranked Nick Smith
(Yankton, S.D.) lost a close dual to third-ranked Tyler Mumbulo, 6-4,
and forfeited at 133-pounds leaving the weight open.
Top-ranked 157-pound senior Jason Rhoten (Mantorville, Minn.) and
second-ranked heavyweight sophomore Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) won
their matches against ranked opponents as Rhoten won a 6-2 decision
over fifth-ranked Travis Eggers and Wilson was able to hold on to a 2-1
decision in the overtime period against sixth-ranked Dan Goodson.
The Mavericks head to Omaha next Saturday for a 7 p.m. start against the NCC rivals Nebrask-Omaha.
