No. 11 Huskies Wins Fifth Straight Dual; Defeats Mary 39-6

Bismarck, N.D. - With the end of the regular season winding down, the
eleventh ranked SCSU wrestling team showed no signs of slowing down as
they beat Mary 39-6 Saturday afternoon at the McDowell Activity Center
in Bismarck.
The win moves St. Cloud State to 13-1 on the season with one dual remaining against Minnesota State-Mankato, the top-ranked team in the country.
The Huskies distanced themselves from the Marauders early in the match,
as SCSU used a forfeit and pins at 133 pounds by Josh Williams (Banks,
Ore.), and 141 pounds by Gabe Suarez (Las Vegas, Nev.) to build an
early 18-0 lead.
Suarez remained a perfect 14-0 in duals and moved his record to 29-3.
Suarez has now won 12 straight and 19 of his last 20 matches.
Chad Kubasch (New Germany) suffered a 4-3 defeat at 149 pounds, but the
Huskies rattled off the next five matches. John Sundgren (Blaine)
followed with a 9-1 major decison at 157 lbs. for his 19th win and Tom
Anderson (Belview) carded a 5-1 victory at 165 pounds for his 24th
victory.
Derek Skala (Owatonna) and Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) kept the Husky
momentum going with 9-1 and 13-2 major decision victories at 174 and
184 pounds respectively. Skala bumped his record to 26-6 on the season
while Padgett moved to 27-6.
Rounding out the Husky scoring was Nick Wilkes (Onamia), who picked up
an easy forfeit victory at 197 pounds. Chris Schiewe (Chicago) dropped
a tough 3-0 decision at 285 pounds to unbeaten Jesse Laber.
SCSU will wrap up its regular season next Friday at Minnesota State-Mankato. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
